Welcome

Welcome to our old farmhouse. Over the past year I have learned so much history of this house and the people who lived here. Ninety six years of love, loss, hopes and dreams. Preservation continues and there is always a repair to be done. We are trying to be purest in our preservation as much as we possibly can. I hope you follow along and each week I will try to give you a little history of the house as well as the first owners of the house. I've been lucky enough to find a journal from a Granddaughter who talks about the house as well as her Grandparents. So come follow along and learn about this old house as well as the occupants, old and new.

A Desert Buffet

Time to play a little! I've been scrapping, chipping. sanding, staining, sealing and painting way to much. So now it's fun time. So how about a little vignette in the pantry. Nothing here is new, I just pulled a little from here and there. Wine and Chocolate, yum.! Everything is self explanatory so I'll just let you browse.

A Little Red For Valentines Day

A little late posting tonight. It was such a beautiful day here 69 degrees, no way I was going to stay in the house. Outside most of the day cleaning flower beds, great to be in the sun for awhile. Back to winter tomorrow, snow tomorrow, I thought I moved away from snow!! OK so I added a little red to the bedroom mantel, you know for Valentines Day. But to tell you the truth I look for any excuse to add red, it is my favorite color.

Red For Valentines Day 001

A little wine to warm you up on a cold winters night.
The oil lamp belonged to my Great Grandmother.

Red For Valentines Day 002

Maybe learn a little French while you sip your wine. The little French to English book belong to a dear friend of mine and several of the books are ones that my Grandfather carried in his shirt pocket every day.

Red For Valentines Day 006

The little picture is of course from a yard sale.

Red For Valentines Day 009

So maybe your not in the mood for wine, how about a cup of tea?

Red For Valentines Day 010

The tea cup is sitting on a little French table I bought years ago at auction. France stamped on bottom.

Red For Valentines Day 011

Cold night, better warm the bed. Another estate sale find last summer

Red For Valentines Day 012

The mirror I have had for years and have taken with me on every move. Also from an estate sale.

Red For Valentines Day 018

I love the detail, even though it has some issues. I think it gives it character.

That's all for now.

Let There Be Light

I hope everyone is having a wonderful safe and warm weekend. It is starting to warm up a bit here but it suppose to get to get cold again next week. So I guess I will just make the best of it and keep working inside, not that there is any shortage of work to do inside, but going outside and working would be a nice change. OK I'm sure you remember my guestroom, turned master bedroom makeover a few weeks ago. Well this is the way it looked when I showed you the floor after it the carpet was removed and floor sanded, fireplace opened, but there is one thing I didn't show you.....

Kitchen and Bedroom Renovations 2 023

This beauty!
This was in the kitchen when we moved in, I managed to get it moved but it ended up here.
Hubby thinks it's a must to have a ceiling fan in the bedroom..

And now!
I had to change the room around to get this girl into the room and not hit the bed but it was worth the work.
This was moved from the mystery room and replaced with a stained glass light.
If you would like to see the little room go here.

A Dollar Store Table

One last winter tablescape before I go into Valentines Day, and this one is from the Dollar Stores.
I used dried hydrangea from the garden as my center piece, with four battery operated candles I bought a couple of years ago at Wal Mart  after Christmas clearance. The table cloth is from an estate sale and the rest from Dollar General, Dollar General Market and Family Dollar.

January Preservation 2014 004

I found the cute little red mugs at the Dollar General Store just before Thanksgiving, great buy at $1.00 apiece and they only had four. The napkin rings were after Christmas clearance a couple of years ago, Dollar General and the napkins are dish clothes that pick up the green from the table cloth and plates beautifully, they were two for a dollar.

January Preservation 2014 005

The plates I got last week at Dollar General Market, clearance sixty cents each. The flatware a Family Dollar find and I'm sure everyone has seen them there.

January Preservation 2014 006

The chargers are a couple years old also clearance after Christmas Dollar General.

So I hope you enjoyed my little thrown together Dollar Store tablescape. I think this would just work great for a simple Holiday breakfast or light lunch. I think it also shows you don't have to spend allot to set a pretty table.

More Treasures

Today I've got a couple little pretties I'll show you. This little girl was also found in my Father In Laws shed along with the two pictures I showed you last week. I have her sitting on the plate rail in my dining room.

January Preservation 2014 007

The picture is somewhat faded and I'm glad I found it when I did because moisture had already started to get to it.

January Preservation 2014 009

The next little treasure is this stained glass light. We found four of theses hanging on the back porch. Each one is a little different in size and glass used. I hope to have them all hung in the house soon. It takes awhile to decide where to put each one, but this one was perfect for this little space, I have a much larger one to hang in the center hall and a couple for the bedrooms. Of course I love the red in this one, it also has lots of green which goes really well with the tile in the fireplaces.

A Simple Mantle

A simple mantle for my granddaughters bedroom. I put this together so fast, by just gathering things I had stored in the room.

January Preservation 2014 015

Both my daughters ballet shoes, a vase of cotton, clock and my youngest daughters 2nd grade school picture she gave to her Dad for Fathers Day many years ago.

January Preservation 2014 018

The lamp shades were just brown paper and I hot glued old lace and pieces of fabric to them.

January Preservation 2014 020

January Preservation 2014 019

You can see the reflection of the ceiling fan in the mirror, that will be gone soon I hope. I have a stained glass light to put in this room. Another change this week I hope to get around to is pulling up the green carpet.
The last room of carpet in the house.

January Preservation 2014 016

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to have a full view of this room soon. I now need to clear out all the furniture and start cutting carpet, from what we saw the floor is better in this room than the last. I hope that holds true.
Maybe nothing but a very light sanding.

Number 5

Well I'm sure you will be glad this is the last one! The last opened fireplace, that is.
This was another guest room as I saw it on my first visit to the house. You can see the bump out next to the fireplace is a walk in closet the previous owner put in, there is another one the other side of the room. It really ruins the size of the room and the only bed that really fits well is a twin. All three bedrooms would have doors leading to the next and those are the doors that were used to make the walk in closets.

West Nest 2 020

And here it is now. I love to come in here at night and light the candles and just look at the fireplace.

Number 5 009

Number 5 006

You can see a few repairs I had to make as far as the concrete goes. These were wood burning fireplaces and the wood was burned directly on the concrete, which cased the breakdown. The end irons I found at the flea market, I think I paid $10.00 for them.

Number 5 006

No I haven't gotten the mantle put back together after the Christmas decorations came down, so come back tomorrow and I will have the mantle decorated.

Treasures

Here are a few treasures we recently found in my Father In Laws storage shed. I just love these two pictures! Of course they were very dirty and I think they were rescued just in time. I had them in the guest room that is now the master and left them there because I enjoy them so much.

New Treasures 012

Look at her little shoe, the shoelace is coming untied.

New Treasures 010

Here is a wonderful old trunk we also found. Lots of cleaning and polishing and it looks great, at least in my world. And best of all it doesn't sit on that green carpet.

New Treasures 003

I have a few other found treasure I'll share next time.
Thanks for visiting.
