Welcome

Welcome to our old farmhouse. Over the past year I have learned so much history of this house and the people who lived here. Ninety six years of love, loss, hopes and dreams. Preservation continues and there is always a repair to be done. We are trying to be purest in our preservation as much as we possibly can. I hope you follow along and each week I will try to give you a little history of the house as well as the first owners of the house. I've been lucky enough to find a journal from a Granddaughter who talks about the house as well as her Grandparents. So come follow along and learn about this old house as well as the occupants, old and new.

Break

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. The weather here was beautiful and of course I tried to get and and do a little yard work. I will be taking a little break, lots going on here. We hope to get the kitchen and possibly the rest of the center hall sanded within the next week. So needless to say everything has to be moved. Then next weekend it's time to put the root crops in the garden and I have events at Middleton Plantation and my Garden club. So needless to say I will be chasing myself, but will be looking forward to seeing my yard looking like this again.

So I will see you soon, hopefully with nice sanded heart pine floors, then I will be able to get new cabinet doors and counter tops. I will be lurking in the shadows following all the creativity I see every week.

Silver and Pink

My dining room dressed for Valentines Day.
I carried the theme throughout the room and I will show you that a little later.
Now there is only one thing on this table new and I think you will be surprised  when you find out what it is.

The china is from a very dear friend, she bought it last summer, online yard sale, then decided it just wouldn't work for her, then gifted it to me. A place setting for six including the serving pieces.

I added a little pink depression glass, most of it belonged to my Mother in Law.

The only item I bought for this tablescape. These are from the Dollar Store after Christmas clearance. They were silver and I decided I wanted them pink, so out came the craft paint and I'm happy! After painting them I decided they were to plain so I used a little white to add the little dots.

My silent butler or crumb catcher, I bought at an estate sale years ago. I bought a whole box of silver not really knowing what any of it looked like. Every piece looked just like this due to a fire. Some may not like it but I do. I call it character or life happening.

The flatware is also old. Years ago I was able to find boxes of it at estate sales and antique stores, not so easy to do now. You can also see none of it matches. I have matching silver, once again, thanks to my Father In Law, but I just liked this look for this tablescape.

The vase belonged to my Grandmother and yes it is empty, nothing here blooming and flowers would probably freeze before I got them home. The salt and pepper shakers were given to me from the same friend that gave me the china, she loves flea markets. The bell and candle holder belonged to my Father in Law, he knew I liked old silver and would collect it for me.

So that's my little Valentines Day tablescape, I hope you enjoyed the new, the old and the flea market finds.
See you soon,
Sandy

Small Black and White

I did an earlier post showing this little original bath. After moving in we slept in the front of the house and tried to use this bathroom daily. You can see how small it is, but I guess 100 years ago just having a bathroom was enough. The previous owners did a full renovation on this little bath, removing everything but the tub and the original bead board which they found behind the blue tile that was on the wall. I'm assuming there must have been a renovation in the 50's or 60's, judging from the blue tile. So after we moved the master bedroom and started using the larger bath connected to it, this became the guest bathroom. One thing I am determined to do this year is use what I have and so far I am doing a pretty good job. So when it came time to decorate this little room, I shopped the house for black and white. I figured why fight it, go with the bones, and to my surprise I like it!

I already had a black and white liner I bought last year at Target and all I did was make a curtain to go over it. I had a rather large piece of 100% cotton material and after a little sewing it was a perfect fit, even puddled on the floor, which I liked.

I added a few black towels to the white one, the black ones I used in our other house in a guest bath.
Another freebie. Grabbed a few other goodies from around the house. You can see the open shelves in here, I am way to messy to have open shelves in my bathroom, but this will work nicely in the guest bath.

Well I'm happy with it! I like the way it looks and I love the price tag, 0 dollars spent.
Now when guest are here I know, I always have a clean bathroom for them to use. When we used this room, one of us always ended going to the other bath because of the room issue. So both rooms were dirty.

Thanks for stopping in, hope you enjoyed this little tour.
See you soon,

Only Blue and White

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I finally got outside today, it felt really good after being in the house for so long. I did a little cleanup in the courtyard. I can't wait for spring to get here. I titled my post only blue and white since I have taken up the last room of green carpet. The last bedroom to have carpet and although it was allot of work, I was thrilled to find the floor had been sanded before the carpet was put in. So the only thing I had to do was give it a light sanding and stain. I left this room white, when we moved in most of the rooms were white and I'm not really a white room kind of girl, but I had everything in this room from my last house and decided to use it here.

The stroller was mine when I was a baby. Dating myself here. The little stool I found at Good Will awhile back, it was green and looked as though it had been cut down from a larger one. I just used a little left over fabric from the curtain panels.

I added a few more goodies to the mantel.

I'm thinking, just thinking about a little white chalk paint to this little chest. I'm still not sure, I have the matching chair on the other side of the room at a desk I painted white. Bought them both at a thrift store years ago.

The lamps I found at a moving sale last summer. So I just thought I would add a little pink.

Now I have to say I was just proud as a peacock, that I was rid of the green, then I looked up. I forgot about this! I'm happy to say it is on it's way out, I hope to get another stained glass fixture up within the next couple of weeks. Just have to wait for the mail lady!

I guess that's about it for now, or until I get a new light up!

So I will see you soon.
