Welcome

Welcome to our old farmhouse. Over the past year I have learned so much history of this house and the people who lived here. Ninety six years of love, loss, hopes and dreams. Preservation continues and there is always a repair to be done. We are trying to be purest in our preservation as much as we possibly can. I hope you follow along and each week I will try to give you a little history of the house as well as the first owners of the house. I've been lucky enough to find a journal from a Granddaughter who talks about the house as well as her Grandparents. So come follow along and learn about this old house as well as the occupants, old and new.

My 2014 Fall Porch

I've had a very busy summer and been MIA for awhile. Between house guest from the end of May through August, yard work, both the flower and vegetable gardens as well as canning, there has been no time for blogging. Work has just started again on the house, but I did take a little time to decorate the porch for fall. This is a rather large porch, taking up the front of the house, then wraps around both sides of the house. I tried to create different areas, or little rooms depending on what your mood might be for sitting on the porch. I created a little eating area for four, lounging, conversation, a two person or maybe a cup of coffee in the morning area ( we have used it for desert, and quiet conversation) and then you can just go to either side and sit alone and swing. So here we go, I hope you enjoy.

You can see my dries hydrangea tree in the background. All the hydrangea came from my courtyard and I used an old grapevine topiary as my form, then spray painted them with copper paint.

So as night starts to fall, again "Welcome To Our Porch".
Thanks for stopping by,
Sandy

Number Two

Welcome to Number Two. Now what reminds us that Spring is on the way more than the little frogs croaking in the distance, in fact I have heard a few in the past couple of days. So come join me for my second tablesacpe using the same place setting, flatware, serving pieces, stemware as last week. Last week we had a breakfast tablescape and today we will be entertaining a book club luncheon. The centerpiece is different as well as the napkins. So now let me introduce our guest.
This little surfer guy is called Fun.

Maybe the Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil clan have him confused.

So now you know the origin of these little guys.
Thanks for stopping by, have a very blessed weekend.
See you soon,

My Dream Kitchen

So what does your dream kitchen look like! Granite counter tops, glass doors, center island, chandeliers?
The next two photos  are of the kitchen in our old house the previous owners took three rooms to make the kitchen. It was a dream kitchen.

So what does my dream kitchen look like now.? All you have to do is open this magazine. It's pretty great when the husband who got to read the magazine before me says, is this what you are trying to achieve?
And the answer, YES!

My Dream Kitchen 016

My dream farm house kitchen. Love that stove, and I already have a vintage sink, free I might add, not this cool but still a white cast iron sink. Love the green cabinets and open shelf. Fresh vegetables from my garden ready to be prepared. YES

OK I got the green cabinets now. Now I have to say this was an experiment, we are building new doors for the cabinets and I didn't like all the white in the kitchen. So it made sense to paint the old cabinets before I ruined the new doors. I know double work but better to be safe than sorry, so I like it and that's all that matters in my world. Now here is part of my open shelving, these doors were removed last summer.

 My Dream Kitchen 001

And now a little more open shelving. This is by no means a look at only kitchen, it is used everyday. I also have fresh vegetables coming in all the time from the garden, so I have a few more baskets to store them in as well as my baking supplies close at hand. You can see we now have the original wood floor, now it is not that great looking, but it is what it is! That would be a 100 year old floor, that's had allot of use and most likely started out life as a porch, so it stays!

Now the one thing I really don't like in the kitchen are these little shelves on the end of the cabinets. I really don't have a choice about removing them since they are attached to the cabinets and it would damage the cabinets if we removed them. So to make them somewhat disappear I only used  clear glass.

My Dream Kitchen 020

My original farm table. I found this several years ago at a thrift store, covered with old newspapers. A lady was using it when she canned at her farm. It's old, has and has been lovingly used for many years, but I love it.

More Kitchen Renovations 014

I should have taken a full view photo of this but if you look really hard you can see the start of another cabinet door. Now that was a false cabinet, it was built that was when the kitchen was put in. Now what would happen if someone opened it up took off the fifties paneling the wood frame and stucco? That"s right you gain inches. What can you do with inches?

My Dream Kitchen 006

This!
A great place for baking pans!
And this was before the floor was sanded!

January Tablescape 015

See I left one little bit of blue, we found the same blue on the bead board wall behind the refrigerator and on one of the three layers of linoleum we found on the floor along with three layers of paint, plywood, leveling agent, felt paper.
