Welcome

Welcome to our old farmhouse. Over the past year I have learned so much history of this house and the people who lived here. Ninety six years of love, loss, hopes and dreams. Preservation continues and there is always a repair to be done. We are trying to be purest in our preservation as much as we possibly can. I hope you follow along and each week I will try to give you a little history of the house as well as the first owners of the house. I've been lucky enough to find a journal from a Granddaughter who talks about the house as well as her Grandparents. So come follow along and learn about this old house as well as the occupants, old and new.

What A Deal

Lots of projects and long overdue yard work going on here since the weather has finally cooled off here a bit. We have two courtyards, one is in pretty good shape but needs additional color and plants and the other is badly overgrown and also needs to be replanted with color. I did have an opportunity to stop by our Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store the other day and look what I found! There were a whole stack of these babies in a little out of the way corner. There were several different sizes, but since we have and old house I knew theses were the best fit for me, plus these were in the best shape of all the larger ones.

Now we all know how expensive plantation shutters are, so are you ready for the price tag?

That's right $2.50 each. So for a total of $10.00 I was able to skip right out of the store with four shutters. Now that's what I call a thrifty treasure. We are still working the island and hope to have it finished in the next couple of weeks. Then I will be able to get these in the guest room

Thanks for visiting.

Here are a few more pictures of the porch. The little bear and tricycle I have used for years and just keep changing the arrangement. I saw the fringed pumpkin in a magazine the other day while waiting on some friends. I can't remember which magazine it was but I thought it was really cute and of course had to copy it. I already had the fringe and the pumpkin. The covers on the settee are made from recycled valances I already had. They didn't work in this house so once I took them apart I had about six yards of fabric and they worked for this project. The fabric in both valance was very heavy duty, the brown was a canvas and the multi colored was actually lined and I was amazed at the amount that was in each panel.

The other side of the porch. I sat another pumpkin on two grapevine wreaths, added more fringe, a bow, feathers and flowers. The lamp was already on the table, I removed the harp added a smaller shade and I think it works.

My recycled lamp shade is made from an old skirt. I found this 100% silk skirt at a thrift store carefully took it apart, the fringe I had in my stash. So now I have two lamp shades and two pillows from this one skirt.

My straw pumpkin in the bottom of the table.
Thanks for visiting.
See you soon.

Fall Harvest

It might be a little early, but the porch has changed for the season.
You see the Fall Harvest Festival starts in our little town next weekend and guess where it starts?
Yelp right in front of my house, so I had to have the porch decorated for Fall.
I guess the price you pay for living on main street!

Summer

Now ready for the festival.

You can see that I took the lid off the urn and placed one of my ferns in it, then changed all the pillows and furniture covers to rich burgundy, browns and golds.

A sneak peak. I'm still tweaking the tables and will show more.

Remember my thrifty find table from last week?

After a little stain and cleaning.

Almost dressed for the festival.

Everything you see, with the exception of the ribbon I used for the bows, are things I've had for years and I just keep changing them around and recycling them year to year.

Thanks for visiting.
See you soon.
