Welcome

Welcome to our old farmhouse. Over the past year I have learned so much history of this house and the people who lived here. Ninety six years of love, loss, hopes and dreams. Preservation continues and there is always a repair to be done. We are trying to be purest in our preservation as much as we possibly can. I hope you follow along and each week I will try to give you a little history of the house as well as the first owners of the house. I've been lucky enough to find a journal from a Granddaughter who talks about the house as well as her Grandparents. So come follow along and learn about this old house as well as the occupants, old and new.

After the Rain

Join me at
for Table Top Tuesday.
Thanks Marty for hosting this event.
We have had a little change since today's
Porch Party on the deck. We no longer
have the black and white. After a hot sunny
day, we had a pop up thunder shower, that
always cools thing off, so I think we could have
a light dinner outside. I think a little color is in
order since it has turned out to be such a cloudy
evening.
An antique picnic basket with antique beverage
bottles. Some old dishes found at the thrift store. I used an old fringed throw for the tablecloth.
So won't you come join me for dinner.
Thanks for visiting.

Just A Deck

Lets all show off our porches at
"Rose Colored Glasses" I'm linking up a little late tonight, I spent the day
just catching up and ran into a post about this
party and thought it sounded like fun.
So I'm joining in even though, I didn't prepare
very well.
I don't have a porch which was on my wish list
when we bought the house, but I guess you can't
have it all. So we will be on my deck and in my
little spot on my car port. Hey a girl has to do
what she has to do!!! So here is my deck, my flowers are doing so
well this year!!! I'm glad I went with the white
it makes everything look so fresh and clean.
A couple little places to sit and rest for a while.
A daytime view. I have lights attached to the top, so you get a little twinkle at night.
The other end of the deck is for food prep and
cooking. I bet you guessed why the prep table
was so close to the kitchen window. Your right,
pass all the cooking necessity's right through
that baby!
A night view.
When is a bird cage not a bird cage? When
it's a candle holder! Now lets move to my spot under the carport.
A wonderful shaded spot to sit and read or
just stay cool.
Or maybe even take a little nap, as we have
been known to do.
To hot for a fire, add some candles.
Another little spot to sit .
More candlelight.
Hope you enjoyed your visit!!!

Velvet

I'm joining Marty tonight at
for Table Top Tuesday. So be sure to stop by
for a visit.
Just a little reminder two days left until the
drawing for the books.
Only rules are, you have to be a follower or
become one. Just let me know in the comments.
I don't know how many of you saw the post
from Cote De Texas last week, but it was on
velvet. She posted some really beautiful
photos of rooms with velvet sofa's, pillows,
and other wonderful things. So while at a
tag sale on Saturday, I found this really
large curtain panel in velvet, screaming
TAKE ME HOME. So home she came and
now proudly covers a little round table I
have in the living room.
I have a piece of brown muslin under it for
a little contrast, but I'm still not totally happy
with the look. It needs something else, but I
can't put my finger on it yet. Any suggestions?
We don't have a TV in this room, really all it is
used for is reading or maybe sitting and relaxing
with a cup of coffee. I have all leather furniture
in this room with lots of pillows and throws
in the winter to snuggle under. I already have
book shelves on one wall and waiting to finish
the other wall, so the room will have more of
a library feel.
An old dictionary I have on the table. A picture of my Father when he was in grade school.
A little tassel to dress up the lamp.
Thanks for visiting.

Book Giveaway

I'm joining everyone at
for Metamorphosis Monday.
Thanks Susan for hosting today's event.
Time is winding down for my anniversary
drawing. The drawing will be Thursday
June 10th for these three books.
As I said before I own this one and it has some really great decorating ideals as well as recipes, gardening ideals, kitchen tips and holiday decorating ideals. A photo from the Style By Nature decorating book. Another photo from Good Things. Ideals for framing your photos from Frame Your Memories. This is a Thank You for all my followers, so the rules are simple, just be a follower or become one, let me know in your comments and you are entered. Good Luck! I don't know about you, but when I take a trip I'm all over the place! So not only did I get to enjoy a portion of the Spoleto Festival last weekend in Charleston, I also did a little window shopping for ideals to perk up the house. While in a kitchen design center I saw something I thought was very interesting. The same crown molding as mine on the cabinets painted a flat black. Grant you the cabinets were stained a little darker than mine, but the color on the molding made the kitchen pop. So while I'm not energetic enough to re stain all these cabinets, I thought I would try a version of my own to make mine stand out a little more. Here is the before.... Here is the after. I used the same stain that was used on the center island, ebony. It was trial and error, believe me. I first coated the entire molding in the black but after standing back and looking for a while, the contrast was toooo much. I started the stain on a small portion of the crown as a test strip and it looked good, but once I stained the long portions, it was a no go! This stain is very forgiving, so I was able to hop on the ladder again and start wiping off. As you can see I wiped most of the stain from the molding and left heavier portions in the details of the crown. I left it on just long enough to highlight the wood grain, then wiped it off the main portion.
The other side of the kitchen...
Now I'm really thinking these cabinets would
look really good, a darker color.
Well that's all for now. Don't forget to enter
the drawing.
Good Luck!!
